Embracing God's Plan For You in the New Year: A Path to Fulfillment

“Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.” – Jeremiah 33:3

You might be expecting this article to sound like a prophecy, laying out the ABCs of God’s agenda for the coming year. This is not exactly that. But it is an invitation.

God is calling us to call on Him, not just when we have seen a problem and want Him to fix it, but so that He can show us what we do not yet know. So often, we come to God because we have already seen something and want Him to intervene, to provide, to meet our desires. But Jeremiah 33:3 flips the script: call first, then see.

About three years ago, I changed how I approached God, especially when it came to new year plans. As we stand at the edge of another year and look toward 2026, I pray this message becomes your spiritual chiropractor, gently correcting your posture before you step into what’s ahead.

Like many, I used to write long lists of goals and prayer requests for the new year. Yet, year after year, I noticed something powerful: some of the greatest things God did for me weren’t even on my list. Looking back, I would say, “This is exactly what I needed,” even though I never thought to ask for it.

When I wrestled with that, the Lord spoke to my heart:

“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you,” says the Lord, “thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.” – Jeremiah 29:11

It was as if God was saying, “My thoughts about your life are better than yours. Stop worrying. Trust My plan. I am giving you a future.”

From that moment, instead of pressing God with my plans, I began to ask Him for His plan. “Lord, what is on Your heart for me as I enter this new year?”

Over the last three years, so much has changed. I have grown more confident in pursuing God, more patient in trusting His timing. I’ve witnessed His miracle-working power, divine connections, timely provisions, and doors opening at just the right moment. God has placed us in the right places at the right time and helped us seize opportunities that produced five-year results in a single year.

I no longer bombard heaven with my needs. Instead, when God reveals His agenda for me and my family, we align our hearts, our prayers, and our actions with it throughout the year.

If you’d like to try this approach, here’s a simple invitation:

  • Create a quiet prayer space, at home or in church, where it’s just you and God. Then pray:

“Our Father, thank You for loving me. Thank You for the good plans You have for me. Thank You because You hold my future. Lord, show me what You would have me do in this coming year.”

  • If you pray in tongues, go ahead. Worship Him. Linger in His presence. After deep worship, sit in silence and write down every thought that comes to your heart about the year ahead. Do this two or three times, days or weeks apart.

  • Then refine what God is showing you.

  • Pray through it. Ask Him, “Lord, how will this be done?”

  • Write what comes to you and begin to act on it.

You will be amazed at how far God will lead you.

As you change your approach to God this new year, you’ll begin to notice greater confidence, deeper peace, clearer direction, and a renewed passion for your purpose.
